FAQ
PLEASE READ SOME IMPORTANT FACTS ABOUT OUR CONSULTATIONS AND TREATMENTS .
Sometimes the cause of the problem may be in a different area to the pain, (for example, a difference in leg length may result in compensations in the upper back which might result in neck pain) so I may need to examine your whole body.
Usually wearing loose fitting clothing (such as a t-shirt and shorts) will be fine, however, much like a visit to a GP or other medical professional, to examine you effectively it may be necessary to ask you to remove some clothing as appropriate for the condition. This may mean undressing down to your underwear so please wear something you are comfortable in. If this is a problem for you then let me know and we will try to make arrangements that make you more comfortable.
Yes if you wish, you can have someone present throughout your consultation and treatment. Children under 16 should always be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Some treatment may cause discomfort. I will tell you what to expect, and will want you to let me know if you are in pain. You may also feel stiff or sore after treatment. This is a normal, healthy response to the treatment.
You do not need to see your doctor first if you are paying for your own treatment. However, some insurance companies require you to see your doctor first.
It depends on the therapist/therapy you choose. Most of our therapists aim to provide treatment during the first session. However, Adam focuses the initial consultation on a thorough case history and detailed examination to accurately diagnose the issue and determine the best treatment plan.
Spending more time on the examination phase helps ensure nothing important is overlooked, which often leads to better results and faster progress in the long run. In some cases, the assessment may even reveal that treatment isn’t the most appropriate next step, providing clarity on how best to move forward.
The number of treatments you need depends entirely on the condition and person. I always aim to give you the best outcome possible while keeping appointments to a minimum.
Back pain has been shown to be the leading cause of disability globally, which means it’s by far the most common thing our patients come to see us for.
As an Osteopath however, we treat the whole body which means I also help people with other areas of discomfort including neck pain, migraine prevention, shoulder pain, sciatica, tennis elbow, hip pain and knee pain.
If you’re not sure whether you want to book in, why not arrange a free phone consultation by clicking here and we can discuss your symptoms in more detail.
No one is built exactly the same, and as such the treatment approach will also differ from one person to the next in order to provide a more tailored fit. Because treatment is designed around the individual, the prices will vary and will be discussed at your first consultation.
You can book in by using the contact information available here. Alternatively you can use the online booking form to book into our St. Albans clinic (Sunday to Thursday). If you haven’t been to see me before, I would suggest booking in a free 15 minute telephone consultation so that I can learn a little more about your problem before your first visit. Similarly, you can do this by calling us up directly or using the same online booking form.
A 24hr cancellation policy applies to all appointments. If you are on a course of treatments / have pre-paid an appointment and cancel without giving 24hrs notice, you will unfortunately lose that appointment.
